The Poetry of Repair by Line Sander
In this gentle, hands-on workshop, Danish designer Line Sander of LSJ Studio invites participants to bring their personal garments, pieces that carry memories, meaning, and traces of time.
With a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and the poetry of repair, the workshop explores mending and stitching as a soulful and creative practice. Inspired by the idea that our attachments to clothing often outlast the seasons - participants are encouraged to let the quiet relationships we often form with garments over time, inspire this workshop - relationships rarely acknowledged in today’s culture of disposability.
The workshop is shaped as two in one: participants may choose to work with a personal garment in need of repair, or create a thoughtful textile composition using fabric scraps - a “mend-scape” to be stitched onto a piece at home or to create a new garment from.
Here, mending and stitching becomes a form of mindful practice also known as craft psychology. Each stitch offers a chance to preserve, transform, and honour what was once worn through - creating visible traces of care, presence, and time well-lived. By composing different fabric remnants and scraps into larger “mend-scapes” new fabrics take form for new ideas.
She encourages you to bring a cherished garment - worn, stained, or torn - such as denim, sweaters, a shirt, socks, accessories, or any piece that calls for special attention.
Participants without a garment to mend are equally welcome – and can use the workshop to create a thoughtful patchwork composition to bring home, ready to be stitched onto a piece of clothing later: a mend-scape prepared for future use.
All materials used in the workshop are provided for.
Duration: 2 & ½ to 3 hours.
