“Martin Palacios Ylätalo is a furniture maker and artist with a Finnish, Swedish, Danish and Chilean background. Born Mexico City 1976.
Working in the fields of design, decorative art and furniture making, committed to make chemical free long lasting products made of natural materials like untreated solid wood, stone, linen, cotton paper & plaster.
- 1994-1995- Studied Photography at Escuela Activa de Fotografía, Mex.
- 1995-1999- Furniture making apprenticeship at R&H Design, NY. Also worked Photographing art work for galleries in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
- 1999-2001- Established a wood shop in Long Island City, NY
- 2001-2005- Worked for Issey Miyake, Sonia Rikkiel, Jane Mayle, Etnies, Shalom Harlow, commercial space build ups and build 2 restaurants in Soho, NYC.
- 2005-2006- Official photographer for Robert Whitman for Local Report, Prune reenactment at The DIA Foundation, The Moon project for Richard Baker. Photographer for SOM annual directors meeting at The DIA Beacon, NY.
- 2008-2012- Studio at Hacienda Retana & Cuernavaca, working with plaster, upcycling industrial materials and bamboo, Mex.
- 2012- Work as a food consultant at La Bodega Negra, London, UK.
- 2014-2015- Worked for GE Productions in projects for Prada, Miu Miu, Michael Kors, Celine, Vogue, Lady Gaga, Scarlett Johansson, Miranda Kerr, Inez and Vinoodh, Mario Testino..
- 2015-2017- Established High House Design Llc and its wood shop in the Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY. Working for Alexander Olch store, the seating for Metrograph NYC, Oak Labs Inc, Ralph Lauren, Nike.
- 2018-2019-Moved to Helsinki, Finland. Worked in Barcelona and Helsinki in interior residential projects.
- 2020 to Present- Establish High House Design Oy and the Wood shop in Pitäjänmäki Industrial Area, Helsinki. Currently working for Stichd, installing brand name fashion displays at Halonen stores. Also working on my own designs and products.
- 2021- Established a intaglio print shop in Pitäjänmäki industrial area, Helsinki. With the help of a grant of Taike and personal funding.”
