Kirit Chitara - INDIA

“Kirit Chitara, born on January 20, 1991, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is a prominent artist known for his mastery of the traditional art form Mata ni Pachedi. Hailing from a family with a rich artistic heritage, Kirit was inspired by his father, Jayentibhai Chitara, a renowned practitioner and teacher of this craft. The Chitara family has been preserving the art of Mata ni Pachedi for over 400 years, making it a unique cultural legacy.

Kirit began his artistic journey at a young age, receiving recognition for his talent while still in school. He won the Best of the Child Award in 2005, which motivated him to pursue a career in art. After graduating from Sajhanand College in Ahmedabad in 2014, he dedicated himself to promoting Mata ni Pachedi both locally and internationally.

Kirit has been traveling around India and internationally to conduct workshops. His aim is to elevate the art forms visibility and expand the ethos of Mata ni Pachedi into a universal language by working with selected artists and designers. 

His work is exhibited at Indigo Museum (Ahmedabad), Eline Groeneweg in collaboration with Kirit Chitara, Chintz: Cotton in Bloom, Fashion and Textile Museum(London) 2021, Fries Museum (Netherlands) 2017”
