Dörte Bundt - GERMANY
“Dörte Bundt is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of visual art, craftsmanship, and design. Guided by her deeply rooted ecological principles, Bundt’s practice is dedicated to creating objects that embody a purposeful, persistent environmental consciousness and a profound sense of care for the world we inhabit.
Exploring the inherent symbolism of portals and the immutable interconnectedness of humanity and nature, Bundt’s work deconstructs themes of transformation and spiritual inquiry, engaging with both ancient and modern textile traditions as vessels of memory.
Knots, cloth, techniques, and processes of making are understood as carriers of knowledge, mapping a temporal continuum that connects past, present, and future - honoring ancestral practices while simultaneously expressing a keen awareness of the present and a sense of responsibility toward the land and the legacy left behind.
Through her thorough examination of traditional techniques and their inherent limitations, coupled with contemporary ingenuity and an intuitive practice, Dörte Bundt challenges conventional boundaries between artistic disciplines and derives an entirely new fiber art taxonomy.
Bundt’s works have been exhibited internationally and integrated into bespoke interior projects, occupying a space between functional design and contemporary art. Largely self-taught, her practice is shaped by over a decade of independent research and immersive residencies and studies with master artisans in Mexico and Italy. Dörte is a member of the Homo Faber Guide by the Michelangelo Foundation.”
