Brown/Bruin - THE NETHERLANDS
“Bruin or Brown, referring to the color of the waste wool we use, is a project by me (Gustav Beumer) and Alexander van Slobbe, a fashion designer, internationally active in through the 80s and 90s with a mens-label called SO, and the artisanal fashion brand called Orson + Bodil, considered one the first to re-employ handmaking and natural dying techniques.
[…] He then set up a brand called Hacked but decided to stop this, when all of the durable collections based on old stock never became truly integrated.
[…] Alexander and I decided to set up a new platform focused on around the utilization waste wool last year (2025) in order to make people aware of the full potential of all the woolen and natural yarn that is routinely thrown away.
[…]
In order to finance the project and work beyond a purely artisanal scope, we helped crafting a network consisting of a knitter of the brand Roosenstein Wolke who is ambitious enough to make sweaters out of waste wool and more durable yarns, a yarn-developer called Nathalie Coumans, and the Zuiderzeemuseum whose main focus is on the preservation of the culture of that former sea.”
