'φυλαχτό' Protective Charm: A Hand Stitch Workshop with Begrims (Danae Grim)
For as long as we have had records of greek history amulets have been an ever-present part of what was then called magic. Gemstones, millennia old Mediterranean blue ‘evil eye’ motifs, or embroidered charms were often imbued or directly engraved with pleas for luck, for a specific — first hellenic — later abrahamic God, or for the simple but timeless hope of safety for their kin.
“In this meditative workshop, participants are invited to explore the ancient Greek tradition of the φυλαχτό, a protective charm created to carry good luck, intention, and protection.
Guided through each step, you will handcraft your own charm using artisanal fabrics made in the Cyclades, thread, beads, and symbolic elements. The process is intuitive and reflective — a gentle act of assembling, stitching, and decorating a personal charm infused with your own significance and energy.
This workshop by Begrims, offers a space for creativity and introspection. Each participant will leave with a handmade keepsake that reflects both artistry and personal meaning.”
