Helena Bajaj Larsen - NORWAY / INDIA
“Helena Bajaj Larsen is an Indo-Norwegian textile artist and designer anchored between Paris, Dubai and India. Her practice can be described as the creation of interdisciplinary fiber universes combining hand painting, embroidery, metalwork and various other processes.
Her projects oscillate between different artistic avenues - be it across fashion, interiors, product or fine art . Most important to her now is highlighting the richness of craft legacies across the global south with an emphasis on their importance in the context of luxury product and design today.
– “As essential as the aesthetics and design aspects are to the work, the where and the how have also taken center stage along the what. Every product has become an opportunity to learn and interact with a foreign set of design principles, a different culture, a challenging “unknown”. It is this exercise in interpretation which leads to work with greater depth and knowledge - knowledge which we owe to our client”.
To date she has developed on-the-ground work with crafts clusters in Haiti, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, India, Uzbekistan, Cambodia and in conversations for future projects in Madagascar, Afghanistan, Colombia, Cameroon and Bhutan.”
