Marcia Mansilla
Marcia Mansilla is a Chilean textile artist and designer from the island of Chiloé.
Studying Fashion Design in DUOC UC, Marcia quickly returned home to create Kelgwo, the project name that would encompass the following 20 years of her creative work in textiles.
Kelgwo, formed in 1997, is a design studio dedicated to the recovery of old, local and slowly dying techniques in textile manufacture.
Enmeshing itself with the visible aesthetic of the island of Chiloé and its natural environment, Kelgwo’s work brings life to a set of collections, forever anachronistic. Atemporal, unique and almost uncanny.
Pioneering this renovation of Artisanry, decades before the word became a marketing strategy, Kelgwo continues to make waves. Participating in several International and National events, such as NY Now; ‘Ethical Fashion’ in Paris and The Biennial design fair of Madrid. The last of which had Kelgwo as finalist in for its Fashion Design Category Prize.
