Alicia Gautier & Guillaume Thiebaut

Founded In 2020 by Alicia Gautier & Guillaume Thiebaut, Memòri, is a studio wherein distinct disciplines of craft connect, intersect and transmit, questioning and continuing artisanal practices and customs. It is an ode to the traditions and craftsmanship that find their roots in the historied Mediterranean basin, aiming wholeheartedly to revive and rekindle their collective memory.

Memòri is a small-scale artisanal studio labouring for the integration of  a sustainable approach to manufacturing and production into its practice. The studio produces limited lines of pieces, always ensuring that each object Memòri breathes life into has a positive social and environmental impact.

Accomplished through the exclusive use of raw natural materials, natural dyes and antique natural fabrics.

For its anchorage in Provence, Memòri has designed its « gardo raubo » wardrobe, composed of pieces made from old fabrics gleaned here and there. Whether quilted antique bed covers, printed cottons or « Indienne-printing » fabrics. They are taken and transformed into modular, unisex and unique pieces of clothing.

Memòri's aim is to revive the textile savoir-faire once characteristic of Provence, such as quilting work like the « piqué », the « Boutis » or the « piqué de Marseille ». Memòri avoids creating collections; instead adding new pieces in a gradual and organic process.

For its homeware creations, Memòri celebrates and promotes the ancestral skills of Moroccan craftswomen, specifically weavers from the Anti-Atlas and potters from the Rif region in the north of the country. All pieces are handmade according to ancestral techniques and using natural local raw materials. Each piece is unique and holds close a true respect for the craftsmanship in its creation process. All Memòri textiles are hand-spun and handwoven, with wool and vegetable dyes. The pottery pieces are all handmade and then fired in an open fire for several hours, which gives unexpected and surprising results, including fire marks on some pieces.
