We’re back!Well, they’re back on the island (I am writing this as the team is in Mallorca). Since the days of yore fairs have been a point of muddled feelings for artists. There’s probably no better exposure, no better way to push sales or gain people’s attention, and yet their barriers to entry are so high, that even the few who can go may struggle to recoup the costs in booth fees alone. XTANT is a program forged by people intimately familiar with such fairs, and we’re hardly what you’d call fans. Curation falls to price wars, with the main deciding factor as to whether you are seen is the money you have, rather than the quality of your work. We do not have booth fees. We don’t even really have ‘booths’ in the proper sense. The idea is, in principal, to coordinate the ground floor of exhibition as a continuous story of many different people instead of feeling like a mall of sorts. Very self important, I know. But It has let us play with the space in very unorthodox ways.
